3 Tips to Avoid a Pedestrian Accident

Pedestrian Safety Crossing Streets

With the upcoming start of summer, it is important as a driver to be mindful that there are more pedestrians out and about. The incidence of pedestrian accidents increases substantially as the weather gets better. Having analyzed many pedestrian injuries from cars, most accidents are easily avoidable.

As a pedestrian, 3 simple tips:

1. Wear a reflective vest both day and night;

2. Stay in the crosswalk; and

3. Stay off your phone.

Unfortunately, the road is cluttered with distracted drivers more focused on their smart phones and in a rush. Not surprisingly, I have observed over the years most accidents could have been prevented if the driver was simply attentive and not distracted.

When we analyze a pedestrian vehicle accident, we first consider the physical evidence from the accident scene. Often, there is video of the incident that answers a lot of questions. We look to digital evidence from the vehicles Black Box as well as phone records to determine if the driver had been texting or talking. We also examine the location of the accident to determine if there have been other accidents.

Be safe, focused and aware this summer to avoid being hit by a car
